One Destiny

Have you ever lived somewhere for awhile and then discover beautiful history right under your nose? Well, my discovery of the Victory Monument in Yorktown, Virginia was just like that, except for it was right above my nose. Overlooking a beautiful view of the York River, stands a very tall monument adorned with statues and wonderful quotes. It commemorates the concluding battle won of the Revolutionary War in 1781. The monument itself was completed in 1884 and sits on the southeast end of Main Street. I had no clue it was there until I got lost going to the wherever it was one afternoon. Now it's a fun place to gander at and meditate. There is a large tree that you can climb and sit on the giant branch. I usually need some assistance to get up there but once I'm perched, it's a great spot to watch the boats and birds.

The photo itself frames the words: ONE DESTINY. I think it keeps me mindful that no matter where we come from, who we are, there are still things that we innately share and that is the journey towards whatever future is coming our way.
